 Our History

Over the years, the Uptown Players has performed miracles.  Not just in terms of the productions it has staged, but also in its ingenious use of the humble facilities of the Trinity River Arts Center.  As the lights have gone down, audiences have been so transfixed by the performances that they have endured the often crowded and uncomfortable setting in which the productions have taken place.  Although the 'temporary' space used to date has served Uptown well over the past six years, with increased attendance and the desire to do larger scale productions, the time has now come to construct a theater which reflects a larger stage and backstage area, more seating for a continuously growing subscriber base, and upgraded technical facilities while still maintaining the Uptown Players' intimacy that has made our shows so successful.

 The Campaign

The proposed "Dream Theater" includes a state-of-the-art, 225-seat theater with administrative offices, courtyard, dressing rooms, costume and set storage space and a second performance venue for smaller events.  We are currently looking at several sites for the theater in the Oak Lawn/Uptown area and must begin to secure the funding to make this "Dream Theater" a reality.
